A bailable warrant issued against PIO for not following the RTI Act
26 Mar, 2012In perhaps the first case of its kind in the country, the State Information Commission (SIC) of Punjab has asked the SSP of Chandigarh to issue bailable warrant against a PIO for consistent failure to comply with the provisions of the Right to Information (RTI) Act.
The Chief Information Commissioner of Punjab SIC Mr. RI Singh has got the bailable warrant issued against Sohan Lal Bhumak, Deputy Director and Public Information Officer (PIO) of the Directorated of Health and Family Welfare, Punjab to appear on 8th May. It has been reported that the PIO did not appear before the SIC despite repeated summons. In the past, the SIC had found that false claims regarding ignorance of the orders of the SIC were made by the Directorate of Health and Family Welfare for which the SIC had warned them to desist from making misleading and erroneous statements.
