Government of AP under debt of nearly 1000 crores - reveals RTI
20 Nov, 2012Members of Communist Party of India (Marxist) sought information under the RTI on dues related to the property tax arrears on state government buildings. The reply to the application has revealed that the dues stand close to Rs 1,000 crore. The state government has 1,186 buildings in GHMC for which it has to pay Rs 71 crore as property tax per annum; instead the government has been paying only Rs 20 crore per annum since 2005-06, resulting in around Rs 800 crore as arrears. The state government thus owes the corporation around 1,000 crore (after adding penalty of 2 per cent), for a period of more than seven years. A petition has been filed in the high court last week by Federation of Association of Apartments and Colonies and the CPM too has made representations to the chief secretary regarding the dues on state government.
