HC asks police to file affidavit in BSUP scam case
21 Dec, 2012Under the Basic Services for Urban Poor (BSUP) scheme - a Rs 654 crore welfare programme - tenements were to be provided almost free to poor families from nine slum pockets in the twin townships of Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation, 40km from Mumbai.
The data obtained through Right to Information (RTI) Act in this regard shows that there was a gross misappropriation of the funds along with the procedural malpractices by civil officials under the scheme.
The police did acknowledge that the case should be investigated under the Prevention of Corruption Act yet it declined to register an FIR stating that the case was to be handed over to the CBI. Now, the Bombay high court has directed the Thane police commissionerate to submit an affidavit clarifying its stand on the investigation. The court is going to hear the case next on January 24, 2013.
