SC expresses unhappiness over HC order in RTI activist murder case
17 Oct, 2012The Supreme Court expressed its displeasure over the Gujarat HC order in which the BJP MP Dinu Bhai Solanki was named as the prime suspect in the murder of RTI activist Amit Jethwa. It was contended by the petitioner that the HC passed the order without hearing him.
On a petition filed by Dinu Bhai Solanki, a three member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice Altamas Kabir issued notice to Gujarat government and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The petitioner challenged the order of the High Court handing over the investigation to the CBI. The bench said “We must say we are not happy at all with the HC order... How does he become a main accused when he was not even heard?”
Hearing the bail application of a mine owner and major mobile phones dealers Pratap Solanki, who is facing the charge of hiring a killer to murder a RTI activist Amit Jethwa, the SC has refused to grant bail. It has been alleged that Solanki hired a police constable Bahadursinh Vadher who was given Rs. 11 lakh to kill Jethwa.
